1) If I had the chance to move from obits to a police beat, I would definitely move to the police beat. Investigating crimes, fires and accidents would be very interesting and upbeat, compared to obits. Police beat reporters would be able to gain first hand knowledge on incidents and gain information by talking to witnesses. I personally love the idea of being able to investigate like a detective.
2) The hardest part of switching to a police beat would probably being able to gain knowledge and accurate data of a situation quickly. Another hard part would be to know all the laws to abide by and making sure when writing about accidents that you don't do so in a way that could cause harm to victims or family of victims.
