Court Story- very rough draft

Those of us who rent from landlords never believe that we will end up in court over unpaid rent or an eviction, but in reality it can happen to anyone. When a lease is signed, it is a contract that brings with it a degree of risk.

Heather Kallas, 27, and Jason Brunner, 25, learned this lesson the hard way. The two rented a property through Pine Apartments and was evicted from the premises.

Pine Apartments filed a small claims complaint against the pair in January 2005 for a list of reasons. The total amount of money they claimed the defendants owed the agency was $3,247 and ranged from unpaid or late bills to cleaning the property after they had left.

A mediation orientation was scheduled for Jan. 13 at the Winnebago County Courthouse. Mediation is used in order for the parties to try to come to a mutual agreement so they do not have to attend court.

According to the mediation agreement, both parties happened work out an agreement that both found suitable. Kallas agreed to pay $1,700 in monthly payments to Pine Apartments until the fee was paid off. In return Pine Apartments agreed to release Brunner from this law suit.

(I still need to speak with both parties to get more information that what I recieved off the filing papers from the court house.)
