QUOTE—TARA PERSON ON WHY SHE DIED HER HAIR PURPLE

“ I’ve tried red and I’m not a blonde, so I picked purple because it is in the red family,” said Tara Person, a journalism student at UW-Oshkosh. “Of all the colors out there in the rainbow,it’s the closest thing to normal.”

The journalism reading room in the Clow buildling is one where students are free to utilize a large number of journalism resources. But on Wednesday afternoon, the room was almost barren with only a single soul, non-traditional student Cassandra Thomason, occupying the contents of its walls.

The time is nearing 1 P.M and Thomson sits at a table quietly doing her mathematics homework. She is wearing thick-rimmed black glasses and her African-American hair is spiked up to resemble the signature hairstyle of boxing manager Don King.

A few minutes pass and Gary Coll, a journalism professor at UW-Oshkosh, aimlessly walks into the room. His hands are in his pockets and he has a strange look on his face.
“I just wanted to say hello,” Coll said. He turns around and then walks out of the room into the area between the reading room and the journalism department office.

A young man suddenly walks in, gives a quick glance to the woman and seats himself at a chair. The music from the I-Pod he has plugged into his ears sends a faint bass sound through the air.

As the two people that are sitting in the room begin to concentrate on their studies, and the man turns off his I-Pod the rooms falls into extreme silence once again.

Professor Mike Cowling is seen bustling between his office and an area that is not visible. He looks like a busy raccoon going to and from his office with stacks of papers in his hand.

An older man makes his way through the door and walks into the room between the Journalism department office and the Reading Room.

“Hey, Kevin Brown,” said a male voice. “Oh hey it’s nice to meet you, oh yeah, har har,” said the very recogonizable voice of Coll.

The sound of somone opening a can of soda echos through the room.
The sound is most likely coming from the office of Mike Cowling who is, most likely, drinking a diet coke.

The shelves behind the woman are stacked with magazines. One of the magazines, titled The Communigator, has a man that resembles Alan Greenspan on the cover. Upon closer observation the person on the magazine is actually a professor named John Roodenrod, apparently Greenspan’s twin.

Also plastered on the walls are pictures of UW-Oshkosh alumni who have “made it big” in their journalism careers.
